A real-time beam steering system for KiwiSAS-IV

چکیده

This paper describes the system being constructed to steer the transmitted beam pattern of the KiwiSAS-IV synthetic aperture sonar. This sonar is being developed by the Acoustics Research Group at the University of Canterbury for high-resolution seafloor imagery and bathymetry. The goal is to steer the transmitted beam horizontally for spotlight-mode aperture synthesis. The beam-steering is performed in real-time using a number of custom Compact PCI boards. Each board uses a waveform memory and an FPGA to implement a digital tapped delay line that drives an array of digital to analogue converters. The delay and scale factor for each channel can be programmed independently using memory mapped registers.
